Winter weather typically makes me gravitate toward warm cups of coffee in heavy mugs and steaming Earl Grey in pretty teacups. But every once in a while, usually as spring approaches, I’ll crave something fresher. By this time of year, I’m just so ready for blue skies, new growth, and fresh locally grown produce! It’s easy to go all out on Valentine’s Day. Experts estimate that Americans will spend over $18 billion dollars on Valentine’s Day this year. Say what? Between the romantic cards, chocolate, jewelry, special dinners, and everything in between, it’s not hard to get carried away! [Read more…]
As first-time pregnant mamas, we spend hours reading books and articles, researching, attending birth classes, talking with our midwives and doctors, listening to our friends’ birth stories, and trying to prepare ourselves both mentally and physically for our baby’s birth day.
The reality, however, is that nothing can fully prepare you for what lies ahead. Anyone who has had a baby can tell you that! Birth is an experience like no other; it’s different for every woman, and no one can quite prepare you for it. [Read more…]

Learning to live on precious little sleep during the early newborn days can make you feel like you’re going a little crazy. Anything that makes your life easier and helps preserve your sanity becomes highly valuable! Ask me how I know. [Read more…]
This first month with Jack has been quite the adventure, and Benj and I are so in love with him! He has been such a fun newborn to get to know and seems to have quite the personality.
As far as we can see, Jack has his daddy’s ears, eyes, long fingers, and big feet, and his mama’s lips, nose, cheeks, and crazy baby hair (mine grew the same way)- definitely a blend of both of us! I just love looking at him and seeing glimpses of each of us in his features. God’s handiwork is truly amazing! [Read more…]
Today, my little baby boy turned one month old. I’m kind of in denial over here! It’s truly amazing to think about how quickly these first days have sped by. Part of me wants time to slow down, and the other part is excited for the day when Benj and I will get to sleep more than 2 1/2 hours at a time! These days are just so sweet and hard and magical and fleeting all at once. I’ve never been so sleep deprived, yet never so happy! The more I think about how quickly Jack is growing, the more I realize that I’ll miss so much if I’m not careful. [Read more…]
Autumn is definitely making its presence known today. There’s a chill in the air, cloudy grey skies, and rain sprinkling on and off. I opened my kitchen window to let in the breeze, and as I stood there, looking out and washing a few dishes, I was struck by the fact that I’ll have a different view in just a few days! The view isn’t much to speak of- just other apartment buildings, the parking lot, and a patch of sky- but it’s familiar. While I’m incredibly excited to move to a slightly bigger, nicer apartment, I’m also a little sad to be leaving our first home as newlyweds. We’ve lived here for almost exactly a year and 3 months, and it’s been such a sweet, precious time of love and growth. We’ve made so many memories, laughed and cried more times than I can count, and been so, so happy. [Read more…]
Earlier this month over Labor Day weekend, Benj and I took our babymoon! I’m definitely glad we took it when we did; I was 26 weeks pregnant at the time. We knew we wanted to stay fairly close to home, so the Oregon coast seemed like the perfect location. We found an amazing deal on a little studio condo just north of Newport, right on Agate Beach, and it was just the sweetest place we could have asked for. Each condo at this location is decorated differently, and some of the special touches in ours were really neat. The only downside was the firm-as-a-board fold-down Murphy bed, which made every muscle in my pregnant back ache until my next chiropractor appointment, but we learned our lesson and we’ll definitely look into that ahead of time on our next trip. ;) [Read more…]
Happy first day of autumn to you!
Fall is finally officially here, and I’m planning on soaking up every moment of this beautiful season. Overcast skies, a nip in the air, hot autumn spice tea, and warm vegetable lentil soup have all been part of today’s agenda. Yes, I’m definitely one of those fall-obsessed people, and completely unashamed. Give me all the colorful gourds and pumpkins, cozy sweaters and blankets, harvest fruits and vegetables, and warm drinks and chilly days and I’m a happy camper. There’s just something about fall that’s always had my heart.
Even though I spent the first 25 years of my life living in Florida, I always wished I could live in a place where the leaves changed color and the air became crisp and cool during the fall months. I loved traveling to the breathtaking North Carolina mountains some Octobers as a child, and I’m pretty sure it was there I developed my deep love for the season. [Read more…]
I recently received another order from Vitacost in the mail, and I thought it would be fun to share a few favorite food staples that I love to order from them! I’ve been ordering from Vitacost for the past 8+ years, and have always been impressed by their pricing and the quality of the food, supplements, beauty, and household products they sell. It helps us to save so much money!
I’ve heard some people say they just prefer ordering from Amazon, but I have found Vitacost to be even cheaper than Amazon (or at least comparable) on most of the food products I buy online on a regular basis. I definitely like saving money wherever I can!
